Taco Soup Recipe

Article by Mayank Gupta

Several years ago, one of my students in public speaking made Taco Soup for her demonstrative speech. I was hooked from the first bite. The student, needless to say, got an A for her speech and a thumbs up from my boys for sharing one of our now favorite family recipes.

I often take Taco Soup to pot luck dinners. Folks always ask for the recipe. They’re always surprised to discover how easy it is to make this delicious soup that is really a variation on chili beans.

When I need to cook for a crowd, Taco Soup works out great. I’ve made Taco Soup for classes at school and once made the soup, along with a couple of other women, for the entire church congregation.

One thing I love about Taco Soup is that it’s almost impossible to mess this recipe up. You can pour in extra beans or hominy if you discover you need more food. If my boys have friends show up, and I have a pot of Taco Soup on, it’s no problem to add to the pot and feed a crowd of hungry teenagers.

Southern Taco Soup Recipe
Ingredients:

2 pounds of ground beef (or ground turkey)
1 can of petite diced tomatoes (29 ounces) – can also use 2 cans at around 14 ounces each
2 cans kidney beans (14 ounces each)
2 can hominy (14 ounces each) – can also use canned corn drained well
1 pack dry taco seasoning mix
1 pack dry Ranch dressing mix (do not mix up as dressing)
Shredded cheese (8 ounce bag shredded or a block home shredded)
1 bag nacho chips (tortilla chips)
Directions:

Brown the beef in a skillet and drain off fat.

Put cooked beef, tomatoes, beans and hominy in a large pot on top of the stove or in a crock pot. I usually use a crock pot. I mix this up in the morning, and it’s ready when I get home. It’s quicker to make on top of the stove, so you can come home and still have dinner ready fast with this recipe.

Stir in the taco mix and Ranch mix.

low until hot or until you’re ready to eat or heat on top of the stove until hot.

Serve in bowls and top with cheese and crumbled up nacho tortilla chips.

If you’re not familiar with hominy, it’s puffed corn in a can and usually white. It’s usually near the canned corn in the store. Hominy helps stretch the recipe and also is really tasty with the seasonings. You can use canned corn, but be sure to drain it, so the Taco Soup isn’t watery.

How to Use a Slow Cooker for Healthy Home Cooking

Slow Cooking is a Healthy Way to Cook for Your Family
Advice on healthy home cooking is everywhere at the moment. To learn more about the ideas discussed in this article, follow my blog.

A slow cooker is an excellent investment for a busy family to make. A long time ago, slow cookers were small and only really suitable for newly married couples (to whom they were often given as wedding presents). Now they come in all shapes and sizes and it is worth taking some time to decide which one will suit you.

Sizes of Slow Cooker

A small slow cooker is around 1.5 litres and these are suitable for couples or single people. A slightly bigger version is available as 3.5 litres. The most popular family size is 6.5 litres and bigger ones are available. They can be round, square or oval in shape.

Oval slow cookers take up less space and the 6.5 litre pot can easily take a medium chicken. It will also suit a family who would like a hot casserole waiting for them when they get home after a long day at work or school.

Healthy and Economical Cooking

The slow cooker is ideally suited to using cheaper cuts of meat because the cooking process is slow and gentle. Meat that would still be chewy after an hour and a half in the oven is tender by the time the slow cooker has finished with it after six hours. It has the flavours of the vegetables added to it and it makes a very tasty and economical meal.

The pot only needs to be about three-quarters full of liquid because the tight-fitting lid retains the moisture needed to cook the food. You can turn the dial to high to start the cooking process and then turn to medium once the pot is heated. The food does not spoil or burn because the heat is so gentle.

Preparation of the Food

To prepare the food for slow cooking, it is recommended to brown the meat first in a frying pan. Softening the vegetables will also enhance the flavour of the finished meal. Remember to add the herbs and spices to the pot and seasoning as required.

Recipes that are able to be adapted to slow cooking methods include bolognaise, chilli, curries, sweet and sour and moussaka. You can also use your slow cooker to make sweet dishes including rice pudding, steamed puddings and jams. There are plenty of recipe books and websites out there with lots of ideas.

Healthy home cooking is easy with a slow cooker. It only takes the time to prepare the vegetables and meat and then set it going and forget about it. Using a slow cooker regularly takes the pressure off the freezer and produces healthy home cooked meals for the whole family to enjoy.

Easy Cream of Mushroom Soup Recipe

Article by Emely

How to prepare easy Cream of Mushroom Soup Recipe? Anyone can prepare it with just a little effort. There are thousands of recipes for true cream of vegetable soup, but the differences among them are small. Basically, you cook the vegetable you want with good flavorings until it’s done. Then you purée it and reheat it with cream. The additions of rice or potato makes soup thick and creamy, but if you prefer a thinner consistency, skip these. Even ¼ cup of cream is enough to lighten the color and smooth the texture; a full cup lends an incomparable richness. (You can replace cream with milk or yogurt, but it won’t be the same.) To intensify the mushroom flavor, add ½ cup or so of reconstituted porcini mushrooms, along with their soaking water. Makes 4 servings. Time to prepare: 30 minutes. Ingredients and easy directions:
EASY CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP RECIPE
INGREDIENTS :

About 1 pound button mushrooms, trimmed and chopped½ cup white rice or 1 medium baking potato, peeled and cut into quarters4 cups chicken, beef, or vegetable stock or waterSalt and freshly ground black pepper¼ to 1 cup cream or half-and-halfChopped fresh parsley leaves or chives for garnish
DIRECTIONS :
1. Combine the mushrooms, rice, and stock in a large, deep pot over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat to medium and cook until the vegetables are very tender, about 15 minutes.
2. Cool slightly, then purée through a food mill or in a blender. (At this point, you may refrigerate the soup, covered, for up to 2 days; reheat before proceeding.)
3. Return the soup to the pot and reheat over medium-low heat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then add the cream. Heat through again, garnish and serve.
…more Ways to Prepare Creamy (vegetable) Soup
Cream of Asparagus SoupNice and light without the rice or potato: Substitute asparagus, trimmed and stalks peeled, for the mushrooms. Omit the rice or potato or reduce the amount by half. Use vegetable stock or water. Strain the soup after puréeing if the texture isn’t completely smooth.
Cream of Fennel or Celery SoupSubstitute fennel or celery, trimmed and chopped, for the mushrooms and start with a light stock. Strain after puréeing.
Cream of Watercress, Spinach, or Sorrel SoupSubstitute 4 cups chopped watercress, spinach, or sorrel, well washed and trimmed of thick stems, for the mushrooms and 2 cups cream for half the stock. Omit the rice or potatoes if you like. Cook just until the greens are tender.
Cream of Cauliflower or Broccoli SoupSubstitute 4 cups cauliflower or broccoli florets for the mushrooms and up to 2 cups cream for the same amount of stock if you like.
Follow the step by step directions carefully and you will be surprised how nice this creamy soup recipes really are. Lots of fun preparing this easy soup recipes and Bon Apetit.

The Advantages of Healthy Meals Delivered to Your Door

Article by diettogo

The popularity of home delivered meals continues to increase, and with that, more and more people are now considering this meal option. However, countless individuals are still on the fence about these meal plans. There are concerns about the taste and quality of the food, as well as the cost. Being cautious about what you eat is admirable. After all, your overall health is founded on a diet that meets your nutritional needs.

Although opinions may vary according to a particular food choice or even according to individual taste preferences, when it comes to taste, some home delivered meals rank higher than others. Programs that offer customization of the meal menus and those that use fresh ingredients are the top rated plans. Besides tasting better, fresh ingredients provide greater health benefits, which means these programs also offer overall higher quality meals.

However, measuring the quality of a meal goes beyond evaluating how fresh the ingredients used are. Technically, a quality meal is a healthy meal. And consequently, a healthy diet is based on good nutrition. In order to fully understand what constitutes a healthy diet, it is important to know about the major food groups and nutrition basics. This includes information about calories, fat and carbs, as well as details about cholesterol and sodium content.

Some programs are designed specifically for weight loss. Other programs are ideal for weight maintenance or even for special health concerns. Many programs offer plans for vegetarians. The more you know about what your particular needs and preferences are, the easier it will be to find the right program for you. Your doctor or a certified dietitian can provide specific information about any special dietary needs or concerns you may have. Healthcare professionals may have recommendations about which home meal delivery program is best for you.

The cost of home meal delivery programs can range from about per meal up to or more per meal. It should be noted that according to many, the cost does not always indicate the quality of the program. In some cases, the less expensive programs rate much higher than those with steep price tags. Learning all you can about a program – before you sign up, is the best way to ensure you will receive quality meals that taste good, and great customer service, all at a good price.

Tracking down the right program is well-worth the effort. There are lots of benefits to having your meals delivered to your home. Perhaps the biggest advantage is the built-in convenience. Trips to the grocery store are no longer a regular part of your life. Struggling to plan and prepare healthy meals becomes a thing of the past. Quality home delivery meals are nutritious, plus, they are extremely fast and easy to prepare.

Facial Mask Recipe – Just for You

Article by David Fenton

If you haven’t paid attention to what makes up your favorite facial mask recipe, perhaps you should. You will be surprised to find that many of the ingredients can actually be harming your skin. There are more synthetic ingredients than natural ones, if any that you would care to know about.

All of the so-called good for your skin products that you use every day has a chemical base that is made of those extra long words that you disregard because you can’t pronounce them. Ingredients such as diazolidinyl urea or propylene gylcol are found in many products that you use today. The first ingredient actually releases formaldehyde; yes this is the same product used to slow down the decomposition of dead people. The second ingredient is actually known to cause various allergic reactions.

You may have heard of parabens which are only used to extend the shelf life of the product. And what about the FD & C Yellow and also Blue coloring which have linked to medical conditions like asthma, fatigue, headaches and nausea. Yes, these are such great ingredients for your favorite facial mask recipe. Perhaps you may take more care in what you apply to your skin.

Is it about the money?

Why do you choose the products that you do? Is it because of the scent, what it is supposed to do or because of the price? Sometimes, a product that has a nice fragrance may not always do what the manufacturer says it will do. Cheap products are just that, cheap and really a waste of your money. If you are concerned about your skin, you may be purchasing products that have organic or plant-based ingredients.

Products that use petroleum-derived which are derived from chemicals such as parabens and phthalates, are very harmful to your skin and are bad for the environment in general. Perhaps that the fragrance shouldn’t be as important and the quality of the ingredients should be. Fancy packaging can be misleading as well. A facial mask recipe that is made of natural products will react 100% better than one with man-made chemicals in it.

The products that are better for your skin will be offered by a manufacturer that cares about the environment. At least to a certain extent they will. The packaging will be recyclable and the product will be made from renewal resources. A facial mask recipe that comes from this type of manufacturer will probably smell fresher and will definitely be less harmful to the skin. These products may be more expensive, but isn’t your skin and the environment worth it?

It’s your body!

If you really don’t know what is in the skin care products that you are using, try making your own. This way you know exactly what is in it and that it will be good for your skin. You eat healthy food for your body, so why not use healthy products for your skin?

There are hundreds of recipes for all kinds of skin care products; even the perfect facial mask recipe your skin will love. Sure it’s easier to buy something but wouldn’t be easier to make your own? Then you will have whichever product whenever you want without running to the store and giving your money to someone else.

Be Cautious.

When making your own skin care products, keep in mind your known allergies. If you are making a mask with honey and you are allergic to bees, you may want to search for another recipe. There are so many great recipes using items you probably already have that are so much better for your skin. Facial’s are beneficial for renewing the skin; have your own natural facial mask recipe is the secret you might have been looking for this whole time.

Recipes for Cooking Mushrooms – They liven up any Recipe, you Know

Your endlessly packed days are tolerable for a couple of reasons – there is the bliss of bedtime of course, but shortly before that comes dinnertime with your family. There’s just one little problem about dinnertime – someone has to do the cooking. Those ingredients aren’t going to throw themselves together for a delicious meal all by themselves, now are they? There is something about including mushrooms in your recipes. The most ordinary pedestrian recipes become something worth celebrating. No matter what it is you have in mind – vegetables, chicken, fish or anything, mushrooms somehow say ‘special’ better than any other ready-to-use ingredient. Let’s try cooking mushrooms in this way- a simple recipe that gets a little extra oomph just because the mushrooms decided to show up.

First up on our list of recipes for imaginative ways of cooking mushrooms comes chicken chili with mushrooms. All you need to throw this delicious recipe together are a pound and a half of diced tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, a pound of red kidney beans drained, a pound of fresh mushrooms nicely sliced up, and a a pound of boneless chicken thighs. You will also need a couple of cups of corn and a little chili powder. Now to get dinner together, take out a large sauce pan, throw in the tomatoes, the beans, the mushrooms the chicken and the corn together, stir a couple of cups of water in, and add chili to taste. Once it starts to boil, turn the heat down, cover it up, and allow it to simmer for about 20 minutes. It should cook itself into something delicious while you put your feet up. You can serve it with tortilla chips.

Next up on our list is fish fillets with mushrooms. What you need to start out is a pound of fresh snowy white mushrooms nicely sliced up, a pound of boneless white fish fillets, a cup of couscous, about a pound of marinated artichoke, a cup of fresh tomato sliced up, and a little bit of instant minced onion. Take out a large skillet, throw in the mushrooms, the artichoke with its liquid, a couple cups of water, the couscous, the instant onion, a couple of spoons of salt, and mix it all together. Bring out the fillets, and line them up over the mixture and top it all with tomato chunks. Once it’s started to boil, turn the heat down and keep it covered and let it simmer for about 10 minutes cooking mushrooms and fish alike, until the couscous absorbs all stray liquid. It’s a great healthy meal for the family, and it takes no time.

Is Slow Cooking The Future?

by Emily Barney

Is Slow Cooking The Future?

Article by Richard Delta

Let’s check out slow cooking versus cooking exactly the same kind of meals in the oven. The aim here’s not to say what’s best or worse but to merely consider the pros and cons for each. Hopefully, once you are done looking over this article you will know if investing in a slow cooker is worth it to you. Or, if sticking with your trusty old oven will suffice. Here I will check out slow cooking then oven cooking and lastly likely to compare the 2.

Slow cooking is about cooking food at low heat for a long time. After you have the best slow cooker inside your kitchen you will spend 5 to 10 minutes within the mornings to have restaurant quality meals awaiting you at night. The very best slow cooker brands like Hamilton Beach and Crock Pot even have programmable slow cookers that are just like a microwave. What I mean is that all you must do is press go and the slow cooker is smart enough to prepare the food slowly. And when you will be running late the crock pot only will adjust the heat to keep warm. This prevents overcooking and ensures the food is delicious. The primary advantages are that you don’t have to be home when cooking. You can just chuck stuff in and press go. The disadvantage is you will need to wait 8-10 hours for the meal.

Cooking within the oven as well all know is all about cooking and checking. Cooking and checking. Until your meal is prepared. I’m sure you’d agree that while you get time and temperature guidelines on your food packaging they are simply never correct. And this is why oven cooking is much more intensive than slow cooking. Actually, oven cooking also requires some more preparation. Say we’re cooking a roast. Using the oven you need to pre-heat and then grab a pan. Once the oven is heated and the roast is properly prepared with oil etc you are able to chuck it in. You will have to check back soon to check on it and also return to include your sides.

I, personally, prefer slow cooking because I like just chucking stuff in and pressing go. I return and appearance onto it only when I think it may be done. Using the oven you have to watch it carefully cause maybe the oven temp isn’t exact or maybe the directions were wrong. Slow cookers are really suited to busy individuals who want to stay healthy. You may enjoy proper oven meals in fractions from the preparation time. Let’s face it – slow cookers are taking around the globe.

I also love cooking in an oven, don’t misunderstand me, it just feels as though this kind of even when you compare it with slow cooking. A typical crock pot is only and will last a long time. Consider all the awesome meals that may come out of that small energy production.
